Recently, the MA Ventures team headed out to the Highland village of Beauly to give The Old School a new look. The award-winning gift shop can be found right on the North Coast 500 route, and until recently they were welcoming visitors with a little bit of a bump.
The Victorian primary school building is home to a range of beautiful gift items but unfortunately, it was also home to some rather large potholes! Until recently that is. Showing just how busy and popular an establishment they are, the gravel driveway and car park leading up to the Old School showed deep craters!
The first step for our team was to excavate the current surface, eradicating the potholes and the water within the craters whilst doing so. With the surface then flat, we set about installing a drainage system to ensure run-off for any surface water. We calculated size to ensure it had the correct capacity and installed a soakaway. Once the sub base, new kerbs and manhole cover was laid we then meticulously checked our preparation to ensure tar could be laid at the correct depth. The final layer of tar was laid by Highland Surfacing & Contracting using their asphalt paver and finished with their road roller. We didn’t want any bumps or stones left poking up, so we take each step and use each machine to ensure that the surface of the new road is as compact and as smooth as can be.

And Voila! The new car park and road outside the Old School Beauly was complete. Our quality methods ensure the gift shop won’t have to worry about large potholes or craters appearing for many years to come, giving a warm and smooth welcome to locals and tourists popping by for a bit of shopping!
