Here at M.A. Ventures, we like to give back to the community and we also hate to see waste of our materials when we know they can be put to good use…
Our Managing Director, Mark Armstrong, reached out to local Councillor Carolyn Wilson with a proposition to help tackle the potholes on the roads at the beginning of April last year – one she was more than delighted to accept!
We were always saddened to simply get rid of the extra asphalt we had at the end of our days. After a few run-ins with potholes in his own car, Mark decided we should try and pick up as many of the bad potholes as we could – something Carolyn Wilson was delighted to hear! With so many contacting the local council office and council members to complain about the issue, Mark was a breath of fresh air with his offer to help. Even receiving a hug from councillor Wilson as he proposed the plan.
As the councils tend to focus on the busier A and B roads, we thought it only fair the smaller roads throughout the Highlands received a little attention too. Working with local road inspectors to identify the worst potholes near our project sites, we then carry out the work as per the council’s specifications.
We understand the council doesn’t have the budget to cover the smaller roads and often temporary repairs are never re-evaluated with lasting repairs. We have the expertise, the leftover material, the manpower and the machinery to tackle some of the potholes on the local roads, and it seems only right to use what we have to help overcome an issue that faces the whole community. Nearly a year on, we have covered up holes in Alness, Evanton, Invergordon, Dingwall, and the Inverness area. We realise we may not be getting around to all the potholes reported, but we do hope the ones we are tackling help to spare even a few cars from having to purchase new tyres!
Mark doesn’t see himself as a hero for his efforts within the community, it was just a way to save the alloys on his car – but we think he’s doing a super job, looking out for the local community.
